GOD’S PIT CREW REVEALS NEW HOME FOR FAMILY OF NINE AFTER FLOODING IN GRUNDY, VIRGINIA

DANVILLE, VA. (August 25, 2025) – God’s Pit Crew recently unveiled a brand-new, fully furnished home for the Edwards family in Grundy, Virginia – bringing hope and healing after deadly flooding earlier this year ravaged parts of Southwest Virginia, Kentucky, and West Virginia.

The Edwards family, whose home was destroyed by a catastrophic mudslide on February 15, had spent months in temporary housing arrangements – staying with relatives and in various hotels – before God’s Pit Crew stepped in. Initially, the organization provided two donated campers for emergency shelter. Now, the long-term recovery arm of the ministry has returned to deliver a permanent solution: a new home for the family of nine.

This marks the 29th home provided by God’s Pit Crew in 2025, with more currently in progress for families still recovering from natural disasters spanning since Hurricane Helene and recent flooding events occurred throughout the Southeast.

“February 15, it was raining, and the water was over the road,” recalled Maria Edwards. “I told my husband, ‘Jeff, if something happens, there’s no way out of here.’”

Edwards continued, “Thank God the water went down – but then all of a sudden, my daughter-in-law ran through the house screaming, ‘Did you see that?’ My son started screaming, ‘Get out! Get out!’ I thank God, He got us out. All that mud came down all the way to the roof… I was hoping maybe we could fix our home, but there was no fixing it.”

God’s Pit Crew is a volunteer-driven ministry that operates solely through charitable donations, making stories like the Edwards family’s possible.

“I want to thank each and every person for everything – the hard work, the donations – we’re just so grateful and thankful. They’ve worked really hard to make dreams come true,” shared Edwards.

Immediately following the February flooding, God’s Pit Crew deployed its Immediate Disaster Response Team and dozens of volunteers to the hardest-hit areas, including Grundy, where teams mucked out damaged homes and distributed critical supplies.

The new home for the Edwards family represents the ministry’s continued commitment to long-term recovery for families impacted by disasters.

“Our mission is to bring hope, healing, and restoration to people in times of disaster,” said God’s Pit Crew President and Founder, Randy Johnson. “The Edwards family’s story is one of survival, faith, and resilience. It’s an honor to be part of their recovery journey and to provide a safe, new home where they can rebuild their lives.”
