GOD’S PIT CREW SET TO REVEAL FIRST TWO HOMES IN NEW “COMMUNITY OF HOPE” IN NEBO, NORTH CAROLINA
DANVILLE, VA. (October 5, 2026) – Two Western North Carolina families whose lives were forever changed by Hurricane Helene will soon experience a moment more than two years in the making as God’s Pit Crew prepares to welcome them into brand-new, fully constructed and fully furnished homes in Nebo, North Carolina.
On the morning of Saturday, October 10, 2026, Jamie and Shannon Honeycutt and Joshua and Bethany Hollifield, along with their two children, are scheduled to see their new homes for the first time and receive the keys to a new beginning.
The official time reveal ceremonies will begin Saturday morning will be provided in the coming days as details are finalized before Saturday.
The two homes are the first to take shape in a new “Community of Hope” being developed in Nebo for families recovering from the devastating effects of Hurricane Helene. Through the partnership and support of God’s Pit Crew, Samaritan’s Purse, and the Ray and Kay Eckstein Charitable Trust, eight new homes will be constructed within the community over the coming months.
For the Honeycutt and Hollifield families, the October 10 reveal will mark the culmination of an intensive two-week build that brought volunteers from across the country together in the mountains of Western North Carolina.
God’s Pit Crew volunteers have worked to transform the two houses into homes from the ground up. The homes were first framed and prepared at God’s Pit Crew headquarters in Danville, Virginia, before being transported to Nebo, where crews completed construction, painting, fixtures, appliances, furnishings, and the personal touches prepared specifically for each family.
When the doors open Saturday morning, the families will step into homes that are finished and furnished – ready for them to begin their next chapter.
“We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve these families and to be part of this larger ‘Community of Hope.’ This is a good showing of what long-term disaster recovery really looks like. It’s not measured in days or weeks but sometimes can take years,” remarked God’s Pit Crew President and Founder, Randy Johnson.
“It takes volunteers willing to keep showing up and supporters who understand that the need doesn’t disappear when the storm is gone.”
The Community of Hope represents another significant step in God’s Pit Crew’s long-term response to Hurricane Helene, which devastated communities throughout the Southeast in September 2024.
Since the storm, God’s Pit Crew has worked throughout impacted areas of Western North Carolina, East Tennessee, Southwest Virginia and beyond, beginning with immediate disaster response efforts. As recovery moved from the immediate aftermath into the long road of rebuilding, the ministry continued standing alongside families and individuals who lost their homes.
Nearly 60 brand-new homes have been provided through God’s Pit Crew for those impacted by Hurricane Helene.
