GOD’S PIT CREW AIDING FLOOD VICTIMS IN TEXAS FOLLOWING TORRENTIAL RAIN AND FLASH FLOODING
DANVILLE, VA. (May 4, 2024) – As mandatory evacuations take place in southeast Texas, God’s Pit Crew continues to work with ministry partners to respond to the devastating flood waters. Multiple communities and roadways in the Houston area are now impassable due to ongoing rain, which is forecast to continue throughout the weekend. Reports of 700 homes already flooded just north in Conroe, Texas, were reported early Saturday morning.
The damage is severe and expected to worsen. On Thursday, Governor Gregg Abbott issued a disaster declaration as severe weather continues to batter the Lone Star state.
Pallets of Blessing Buckets – which are five-gallon buckets containing non-perishable food, water, hygiene items, first-aid kits, Bibles, and handwritten notes of encouragement – are already on hand in the Houston area and will be distributed by local officials to shelters and distribution centers to aid victims of the catastrophic flooding.
God’s Pit Crew is thankful for their partnership with Houston-based, Christian broadcast group, KSBJ Radio, who joined forces with the ministry last year to host a Mobile Blessing Bucket Packing event. The event filled over 1,000 Blessing Buckets, which have been stationed in the area since being packed with the intention of being able to rapidly distribute the supplies to help in situations such as this.
“As the area continues to survey the situation and implement steps moving forward in the recovery process, we’ll be in constant communication with partners in that area and ready to provide assistance where needed,” stated Chris Chiles, God’s Pit Crew Immediate Disaster Response Coordinator. “The situation is terrible and seems it will get worse as more water is released from the reservoirs.”
While relief efforts are being planned and implemented for Texas, assistance has been ongoing in the Midwest following last week’s tornado outbreak. Pallets of Blessing Buckets and Play Pails were recently sent to Sulphur, Oklahoma, to aid storm victims as their recovery process continues.
In the midst of back-to-back disaster scenarios, God’s Pit Crew Chief Operating Officer, Brandon Nuckles, expressed the importance of being prepared to respond at a moment’s notice.
“Our committed volunteers, donors, and partners make it possible for us to respond with urgency,” said Nuckles. “All donations received for disaster relief efforts allow our ministry to aid disaster victims with life-sustaining supplies that are prepared and ready to go when needed – and we are so thankful for that support.”
As the ministry looks to restock their inventory of Blessing Buckets to keep responding and providing the much-needed materials to survivors, anyone interested in sponsoring a Blessing Bucket – which cost $35 per bucket to fill – or to support their ongoing immediate disaster response efforts is encouraged to visit GodsPitCrew.org or call (434) 836-4472.
