GOD’S PIT CREW CALLS ON COMMUNITY TO HELP RESTOCK EMPTY SHELVES AND FIGHT FOOD INSECURITY THIS SEPTEMBER
DANVILLE, VA. (August 31, 2026) – A can of food may seem like a small gift, but when shelves are empty and families are wondering how they will put their next meal on the table, that item can become something much more: hope.
This September, God’s Pit Crew is calling on individuals, businesses, churches, and community members to help restock its Regional Distribution Center with donated food items as local families and the nonprofit organizations serving them face a growing need and a season of fewer donations.
Through its Regional Distribution program, God’s Pit Crew provides food, beverages, hygiene products, and other essential supplies to trusted nonprofit and public service organizations throughout Southside Virginia and Piedmont North Carolina. These organizations, including schools, churches, first responder groups, and other community agencies, rely on donated resources to stretch their own budgets and continue serving families and individuals facing difficult circumstances.
This year alone, the program has already made an impact on more than 250,000 people, supported more than 50 public service agencies, and helped provide food to more than 3,200 families through God’s Pit Crew Food Box Distribution events.
But right now, the need is greater than the supply.
For many families in the region, food insecurity is not a distant issue. According to recent studies, 22.5% of Danville residents live in poverty, while 23.1% of children in the region experience food insecurity – with nearly one in four children facing hunger.
“When our neighbors face uncertainty, we believe no one should have to face it alone,” remarked Ben Webb, God’s Pit Crew Facilities and Logistics Director.
“There are families right here in our communities who are making difficult choices about how to make ends meet, and there are organizations working every day to help them. When we keep our Regional Distribution shelves stocked, we help those organizations keep serving the people who need them most.”
God’s Pit Crew is asking the community to make an impact throughout September by donating shelf-stable food items at its headquarters and during several collection events at local Walmart and Sam’s Club locations.
Food donations can be dropped off at the God’s Pit Crew Regional Distribution collection dock at 145 Brentwood Drive, Danville, VA 24540, Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Community members will also have opportunities to donate directly to God’s Pit Crew volunteers at the following collection events:

The ministry is currently seeking canned vegetables and fruit, canned meats such as tuna or chicken, soup, chili and stew, peanut butter, rice and pasta, macaroni and cheese, boxed meals, cereal and oatmeal, dry beans, pasta sauce in plastic containers or cans, crackers and granola bars, applesauce and fruit cups, and shelf-stable milk.
For food safety and storage reasons, God’s Pit Crew is unable to accept glass containers, beverages, expired or opened food items, or refrigerated or frozen foods.

Each month, God’s Pit Crew’s Regional Distribution team partners with nonprofit organizations across Southside Virginia and Piedmont North Carolina, providing resources that allow these organizations to continue meeting the needs of their local communities.
For the Patrick Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church Food Ministry, the impact goes far beyond boxes of food.
“We want to connect with anyone going through the pains of life, whether it be from sickness, the loss of employment, the loss of a loved one, or whatever,” shared Larry Martin, co-overseer of the Patrick Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church Food Ministry.
This September, God’s Pit Crew is asking the community to help fill the shelves so local organizations can continue filling tables.
