WEST VIRGINIA IMPACTED BY TORRENTIAL FLASH FLOODS; GOD’S PIT CREW DEPLOYS VOLUNTEERS TO ASSIST RECOVERY EFFORTS
DANVILLE, VA. (July 24, 2026) – In response to the devastating flash flooding that swept through central West Virginia, God’s Pit Crew is deploying volunteer teams and critical disaster relief supplies to assist the impacted communities as recovery efforts continue.
According to state officials, torrential rainfall triggered life-threatening flash flooding across portions of West Virginia, particularly impacting Lewis County and surrounding communities. Roads and bridges were damaged, homes and businesses were inundated by rapidly rising floodwaters, and numerous water rescues were conducted as emergency crews responded throughout the region.
God’s Pit Crew volunteers will depart from the ministry’s headquarters in Danville, Virginia, on Sunday, July 26, and will serve in Weston, West Virginia, and the surrounding region through August 5. During the deployment, volunteers will provide hands-on assistance to residents by removing flood-damaged debris and household belongings, tearing out water-damaged drywall and flooring, conducting mold remediation, and helping families and individuals begin the long process of restoring their homes.
“When floodwaters rise so quickly, families can lose so much in a matter of minutes,” stated God’s Pit Crew Immediate Response Director, Chris Chiles.
“Our volunteers come prepared with the tools, equipment, and training needed to safely help families begin recovering from flood damage – all at no cost.”
In addition to deploying volunteer teams, God’s Pit Crew has dispatched multiple tractor-trailer loads of critical relief supplies to support immediate needs throughout the impacted communities of Weston and Buckhannon. The shipment includes pallets of the ministry’s signature Blessing Buckets – 5-gallon buckets each filled with more than 30 essential cleaning and hygiene items, along with a Bible, to help families safely clean and recover after flooding. Also included are children’s Play Pails, specially assembled kits containing hygiene items, games, books, stuffed animals, and comforting activities designed to bring hope and encouragement to children whose lives have been disrupted by disaster.
The shipments also contain pallets of bottled water and hydrating beverages to keep residents and first responders hydrated in the extreme heat. Also included are pallets of bedding supplies, diapers, packed food boxes – as well as bleach and other essential cleaning supplies that will aid families as they begin the difficult process of cleaning mud, debris, and flood damage from their homes.
Throughout the deployment, God’s Pit Crew will provide lodging and meals for volunteers, allowing them to focus fully on serving those in need.
